Finally they convicted him on one count: claiming to be the Son of God. Everyone who has ever been presented with Jesus has already made some kind of decision about who he is. Jesus claimed to be the Savior of the world.
I came to save it. He could have stopped the trial at any moment. He knew he would be proven guilty and put on the cross -- but he allowed it to happen. It was all part of the plan. The Death After a night of beatings and mocking, after being crowned with painful thorns, Jesus was crucified. Crucifixion is probably the most brutal and torturous death penalty ever devised by men. His hands were stretched out wide against the cross and nailed through the two bones in each wrist.
As the nails went through this part of the flesh, they would strike the nerve that travels up the arm and cause excruciating pain. If you hung this way for any period of time, the muscles around your chest cavity began to be paralyzed.
Death on a cross would have been a simple matter of suffocation -- except the Romans didn't want to make it that easy. So a man would hang there in absolute agony until the pain in his chest was about to explode -- and then he would lift himself up on his nailed feet to grab a breath. It was an incredibly torturous event.
Eventually, the soldiers would break the legs of the criminal to hasten death by suffocation. But just to make sure, they stuck a spear in his side. Because it is. Easter is the most important holiday of the year for us as Christians. Easter is just as important for us today as it was years ago in the early church. Just as important because it represents that Jesus saved us from our sins by dying and rising again after three days. So this Easter, instead of just accepting it as another day, instead of just welcoming the break from the work week, recognize Easter for what it is and celebrate accordingly.
Set aside fanciful notions of the Easter bunny and getting candy eggs in the semi-flooded fields of southern Manitoba, and focus on the truth of Easter. The truth of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This weekend remember the true meaning of Easter, the truth behind Christianity, and thank God for sending His son to die for our sins so that we may have eternal life in Him!
Skip to content. Happy Easter! Previous Post Unfailing Love. Titus NLT. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. We have died to sin.
In Christ we can look sin in the face and refuse it. Yes, we will be tempted but Christ destroyed its power over us when He died. He conquered sin and death by His resurrection so sin no longer has dominion over us.
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. No matter what we face in this life. In spite of the challenges or crises in the earth. In Him, we have hope of victory over every circumstance. He has assured us victory because we share in His glory. This hope gives us strength and courage to live. It gives us reason to never give up, no matter what. For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too.
And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. Colossians NLT. We can rest in the knowing that all who died in Christ will be raised then. Death will not hold them back. So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man.
Those who are alive in Christ will also meet Christ upon His return. Then they will with those who were raised from the dead be with Christ forever. The resurrection of Christ is our hope for eternity. If Christ had not resurrected we will be hopeless even in this world.
